Learning and Achievement

By connecting to the real world of students’ lives, authentic learning enables students to become lifelong learners who contribute to society and the wider world as active and discerning citizens. Authentic learning is central to our work as Catholic educators because it promotes the continual growth and wellbeing of the whole person — spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically.

At St Gertrude’s Catholic Primary School Smithfield, we strive to encourage every student, providing support for their educational, spiritual, emotional and physical needs, thus building respectful relationships based on trust.

We challenge all students to build on their knowledge and skills within a supportive environment that fosters high expectations. Our staff is dedicated to ensure every child meets their full potential.

Throughout their time at school, students are empowered to achieve beyond what they believe possible.

Students participate in inter-schools sport, having represented our school at state level in various fields.

Our indigenous students have received recognition and won prizes in the Patrick White Indigenous writing competition over the past three years.

We have students who have received placement in the SCS Christmas Art competition.

Public Speaking occurs in all grades across the school annually. Our Year 5 and 6 students participate in the annual inter-schools competitions – where we always perform very well.
