We value positive relationships with parents and carers to help develop better social and emotional skills in children. We know that when children are engaged with their learning, they attend school more regularly, leading to better long term outcomes.
For parenting and counselling services, visit the Family Support page, and for direction and clarity on regulations, processes and procedures at our school, read the Sydney Catholic School policies.
Before and After School Care operates within St. Gertrude’s Catholic Primary School Smithfield. This provides safe supervision and activities within school grounds for students at St. Gertrude’s.
At St Gertrude’s Catholic Primary School we encourage regular communication between parents and teachers through a fortnightly newsletter, the Compass student information system, along with an app, emails, phone and social media. Parents are encouraged to make an appointment via email, phone or in person when required.
The St Gertrude’s Parent Engagement Group (PEG) plays a special role in the integration of school, home and community. Meeting once a term, the PEG allows for an open dialogue between parents and the school to help build a sense of community within the wider school and each individual classroom community, creating an environment that prioritises student wellbeing, fosters a love of learning and an understanding of character between students, families, teachers and school.
The aim of the Parent Engagement Group is to:
– Provide a forum for open dialogue between parents and the school community.
– Support and encourage school initiatives.
– Promote fundraising initiatives for the benefit for students and school resources.
